Finnius maintains its Tier 2 ranking in Legal 500 Europe Guide
Following the recommendations published in the Chambers FinTech 2020 guide and the Chambers Europe guide 2020, Finnius has again been recommended in the most recent edition of the Legal 500 Europe Guide within the following practice area’s: Banking & Finance: Regulatory (Tier 2) and Investment funds (Tier 3). Banking & Finance: Regulatory
Legal 500 writes that: “Boutique firm Finnius offers a ‘personal touch’ as well as ‘very thorough and specific knowledge’. The ‘efficient’ team is active in both advisory and litigious matters; its expertise in the latter was further reinforced by the arrival of Guido Roth from Jones Day. In recent highlights, Bart Bierman led a team that advised four globally active Dutch banks on the regulatory and business impact and implementation of the new EU Payment Services Directive. Bart Bierman is the key contact for financial regulatory rules impacting an institution’s internal organisation, capital and governance. Associate Eleonore Sijmons is also a key member of the team. Pien Kerckhaert departed to Dentons in 2020.”
Testimonials
Furthermore, our clients have given, inter alia, the following testimonials:
“‘We learned about Finnius when our firm had some issues with one of the State supervisory authorities in the Netherlands a couple of years ago. The Finnius team was able to support us in this to our full satisfaction. We have worked with Finnius for almost 3 years now and we appreciate very much their professionalism, their readiness for action also in the very short term and their helpfulness.‘”
“‘We received excellent services from Finnius’ partner Casper Riekerk. The huge number of new compliance and regulatory legislation in The Netherlands has made the business environment of the financial and corporate services industry in The Netherlands nowadays very complex and difficult to operate in. It is not only about the technical knowledge of the regulatory and compliance law, but it is even more about choosing the right strategy on how to approach the State supervisory authority in order to get the best possible results for the client. This is what makes Finnius different from their competitors. The performance of the Finnius team exceeded our expectations by far!‘”
“‘Personal touch. Technical and in-depth knowledge translated into easy and understandable language. Well acquainted with the professional environment my firm works in.‘”
“‘Thorough knowledge, pleasant interaction, very good writing skills.‘”

Investment Funds
Legal 500 has also praised Finnius in the Investment Funds category, and writes that: “The investment funds team at Finnius is highly specialised in the field of fund regulation, providing expert advice on the full range of licensing structures to private equity funds, listed funds, hedge funds and real estate funds, as well as more niche operations including crypto funds, and funds of funds. The firm is well-regarded for its strong performance before the authorised fund manager, and ability to solve deadlocks with the regulator. Rosemarijn Labeur heads the practice, while senior associate Tim de Wit is a name to watch for the future.”
Testimonials
Furthermore, our clients have given, inter alia, the following testimonials:
“’Rosemarijn Labeur is very knowledgeable about regulation in the field of asset management and the relevant supervisory practices of the Dutch regulator. She has very well advised us in our project by providing detailed insight into legal requirements and helping translate them into a practical approach. She is also a nice person to work with.‘”
“Complete focus on regulatory matters related to investment funds and asset managers. Highly specialised in this area, unlike many other firms who also provide a lot of generalist legal work. The team has in-depth knowledge of all the regulatory issues we face and has always been able to provide us with guidance as to how we should deal with regulators or how to structure our in-house procedures. Very no-nonsense and practical approach.‘”
“‘Tim de Wit has an outstanding legal knowledge when it comes to the AIFMD, but is not reluctant to assist in more operational organizational matters. Accessible. Rosemarijn Labeur is also very accessible, and has a very good understanding of MiFID II. Although they both are excellent lawyers, they stay practical.‘”
