Finnius Appoints Laurens Hillen as Counsel
Finnius has appointed Laurens Hillen as counsel effective May 1, 2026. Laurens advises a wide range of national and international financial institutions—including banks, investment firms, fund managers, and crypto service providers—on proceedings and matters related to financial regulatory law.
He focuses in particular on assisting companies and executives facing investigations or enforcement actions by the AFM or DNB, including administrative proceedings at all levels. His expertise also covers rules for investment services (MiFID II/MiFIR) and related regulations such as DORA, MAR, MiCAR, and the Wwft. He also regularly advises on Wft obligations regarding director vetting, background checks, incidents, and outsourcing. Additionally, Laurens has a particular interest in innovation in the financial sector and the applicable European and Dutch frameworks.
Laurens graduated from Leiden University in 2015 and has been working at Finnius since 2020. “For me, Finnius is the place where I can best develop my skills at the intersection of financial law and administrative procedural law.
