New prudential framework for investment firms

At an EU level, a new capital requirements framework for investment firms is in the works; the Investment Firm Directive and the Investment Firm Regulation (please click [here] https://ec.europa.eu/info/publications/171220-investment-firms-review_en for the proposals). As a result, investment firms (that fall under MiFID II) shall no longer fall under the Capital Requirements Directive and Regulation, which are primarily intended for banks. The proposals are currently discussed in the European Parliament and the Council. It is envisaged that the new rules must be implemented into national law by the end of 2020 or the beginning of 2021.
